We inaugurate the first ligning pilot plant in Chile

Through a collaborative effort with the University of Concepción and UDT, we commissioned a new facility in Coronel, Chile, to transform this wood component into high-value biomaterials.

Together with the Technological Development Unit (UDT) of the University of Concepción, we commissioned Chile's first lignin production pilot plant. This facility will enable researchers to scale up testing on this biomaterial—which accounts for nearly 40% of tree biomass—with the goal of producing industrial-scale volumes for operational testing, validating commercial applications, and accelerating the development of renewable products capable of progressively replacing petroleum derivatives across various industries.

Bibiana Rubini, R&D and Bioeconomy Manager at CMPC, said:

Alongside the University of Concepción, we are taking a tangible step toward adding value to our forest resources and replacing fossil-based inputs, driving a bioeconomy centered on innovation, local development, and collaborative efforts."

For her part, Jacqueline Sepúlveda, Rector of the University of Concepción, highlighted:

Globally, lignin is rapidly gaining traction in sectors such as construction, agriculture, and
advanced manufacturing. With this inauguration, the country takes a firm step toward joining
a global trend that not only reinforces our Company's purpose of promoting a circular
economy, but also lays the groundwork for generating local knowledge and optimizing the
use of renewable resources.
