Contract Signed to Develop Terminal Rio Grande do Sul S.A.

The infrastructure at the Port of Rio Grande will receive approximately R$ 1.5 billion in investments, with a capacity to handle up to 9 million metric tons per year.

On Friday, September 11, we signed a paid land-grant contract in the municipality of Viamão for federally owned land to develop Terminal Rio Grande do Sul S.A., a Private Use Terminal (TUP) dedicated to pulp handling at the Port of Rio Grande. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck; Augusto Robert, VP Corporate Affairs & Sustainability; Marcos Jacques Fonseca, Director of Sagres/Neltume; along with other government officials, distinguished guests, and media representatives.

Spanning approximately 400,000 square meters, the terminal will handle CMPC’s outbound pulp production. The port infrastructure investment will be around R$ 1.5 billion, secured through a 25-year lease agreement with an option for renewal.

Regarding the project, Augusto Robert noted: “Terminal Rio Grande do Sul S.A. will deliver significant benefits to the city of Rio Grande and surrounding communities, creating roughly 1,200 jobs during construction and 450 permanent jobs during operations. The facility will have a planned throughput capacity of up to 9 million metric tons annually—spanning barge unloading and vessel loading—driving greater efficiency and logistical security across our supply chain.”

Terminal Rio Grande do Sul S.A. will expand cargo handling capacity and significantly boost the competitiveness of Brazilian pulp in the international market. Navigational enhancements, including an increased draft depth, will also bolster competitiveness for all operators across the Port of Rio Grande.
